When asked to serve communion -- Cultivating Fruitfulness Day 14

My "a-ha" during worship came while I was struggling with the time-honored question, "What am I going to do with my life."

I was attending a mid-sized congregation in Topeka, KS. I had for a long time felt a call to serve God, and I was pondering the possibility of going to seminary to become a pastor.

I had pretty much decided that I was not going to pursue seminary when I arrived at church on the first Sunday of the month. The pastor approached me as I was finding my spot in the pew and asked me if I would help serve communion during worship.

In that moment something switched on in me. I knew that I had to pursue a path of service. Immediately after we had finished serving communion, I asked the pastor if we could meet later that week. I had something I wanted to ask her.

My first question was, "Why did you pick me on that Sunday to help during worship?" The second question was, "Would it be possible for me to go to seminary?"

That simple invitation during worship was an affirmation of the work God had done and was wanting to do in my life. Praise God for that "a-ha" moment
