How do we change values into practices? I think this is the million dollar question. How do we change values into practices?
First, I think that we have to be very clear about our values. Our vision statement describes us a people who "Seek Christ. Share Christ. Serve Christ." This is a great start, but I think we need to define the values behind this vision.
For example, do we value our comfort over welcoming someone new into the congregation? Do we value tradition over trying something new? Do we value using our building over keeping it clean and pristine? Do we value a large savings account over an accessible building? Do we value a quite worship service over having kids who might be disruptive in church?
My point is that every action or practice that we undertake reveals our values.
Second, I think we have to push ahead with some of the practices that we as a congregation have been generating during our fruitfulness workshops. To this end look for a "fruitfulness catalogue" if you will, to be printed at the conclusion of this initiative.
That catalog will contain each of the ministry ideas that we have identified, as well as steps that can be taken toward fulfilling that ministry. In other words, it is time to get involved!!!
We have generated so many great ideas, I can't wait to see the fruits of our efforts!!!!
