Cultivating Fruitfulness - Day Ten
I like today's devotion because it helps to recast the meaning and purpose of worship. Worship is not a performance. It is not an obligation. It is not what we do to feel good about ourselves (although that may be a positive side effect).
Worship is what we do for the love of God.
Now, my spiritual gift is procrastination. I am really good at it. I can hardly function without doing something last minute. I have been a procrastinator since birth. It is a gift I inherited from my mother who is still a master procrastinator. In the third grade I started at 2 a.m. (and completed on time) a report on the state of Alaska, and I completed it on time!!! I have been perfecting my procrastination for a long time.
So, here is my commitment for the love of God: I will not procrastinate on my sermons anymore. For the love of God I will have a draft of my sermon completed on Tuesday. Since I am not procrastinating anymore, I will not have to use as many notes while delivering my Sunday morning message. This will allow me to get out from behind the pulpit more often.
So, for the love of God I will be able to share more informal sermons.
What will you do for the love of God to contribute to passionate worship at Pomme de Terre UMC?
