Cultivating Fruitfulness
Radical Hospitality Day Three

The most basic and profound way that my life has been enriched by being a follower of Jesus Christ is by giving me a feeling of acceptance. The first line of today’s devotional reading reminds us that congregations offer something people need. For me church offered acceptance.
Growing up I often felt like an outcast and an outsider. I didn’t know where I fit in – not at school, not at little league, not a Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts, not on my basketball team. Where ever I went I felt like the outsider. It was lonely.
But at church I was loved and accepted and encouraged to be who God had created me to be! It was a glorious feeling. People didn’t just tell me that I was loved; they demonstrated it by letting me know that I was missed when I wasn’t there, by inviting me to participate in activities, and eventually by asking me to take leadership in activities.
The churches that I have been a part of have made God’s love real to me. While I always wondered about where I fit in, I also always wondered where I fit in with God. By giving me a place to belong church has also taught me that I belonged with God. Acceptance.
